CAFFI CWTCH

I always try my best to support any local and independent shops that open up on the high street.
In Newport, there is a new cafe near the train station called, 'Caffi Cwtch' (Translates from Welsh to English as Cuddle Cafe).
Caffi Cwtch is perfect for me. It's a local coffee shop, they sell Welsh products and it's convenient. However, their design is not as impressive.
Caffi Cwtch's logo is simply a red background with their name in a very basic font (looks somewhat like Times New Roman). It doesn't stand out at all and it doesn't make itself look that appealing to new customers.

I quickly knocked up this design and I actually really like it. I decided to stick to the red theme (represents Wales) and to keep it simple and basic as obviously the owners of Caffi Cwtch would want it to be basic. The font used is probably one of my all time favourite fonts, it's called Stainy Personal Use only
I think this logo just screams individuality, sophistication and being unique.
I also did a copy in black and white to see what it looks like if it were to be actually used.

Poster/Leaflet 
As this is a local cafe in the heart of Newport, I wanted to include typical Newport humour into this design. I believe that appealing to the local audience and what they like will only be beneficial to the local cafe and its profits.
I think the posters/leaflets could even span out to be their own advertising campaign by capturing popular and local sayings and including the word 'cwtch' into it. I've actually seen birthday cards in a few shops in Cwmbran and Newport that focus on popular sayings/films and turning them into an inside Welsh joke, such as, "Cwtch me if you can."

MAGAZINE COVER & CONTENT

Like you may or may not know, I am doing some work experience for a Japanese magazine. They asked me to do a piece on Britain (anything I liked) and decided to do it on The Great British Summer (?). I'm not too sure what I think of these and even if it makes much sense but my internet wasn't working over the weekend so just messed about with different styles and took some pictures in the fields by my house.

''NEWPORT'S INSTITUTE OF MENTAL HEALTH''

EXHIBITION 

Friday I went to the launch of the 'Institute of Mental Health' exhibition in Newport, South Wales. I was really impressed with the work on show as half was fine and delicate (not my kind of thing) whilst the other half was more abstract and modern (just my thing!)

My favourite was the Fuerza Cristina Macri 2011 by Luke Pomphrey (the last two pictures). Anyone who comes here often would understand that this type of art is what I love - hence why I was enjoyed the exhibition so much!

I think from now on - I'm going to be going to more and more art and design galleries as they're great to get inspiration but also to see the range of work out there at the moment!

NEWPORT STREET ART/GRAFFITI (CONTINUED)

Decided to continue my theme of Newport Street Art by including some stunning graffiti down in Maindee in Newport, Wales. The graffiti is on a legal board which allows the youngsters to just graffiti on the boards to spice things up! 

I have always loved graffiti - and its hardly surprising to see why when looking at the pictures below. I really love the use of colour and abstract to this style of work - its right up my street. Just like the post I did on Jean Michael Basquiat the abstract and colourful style shows through! 

People of South Wales, it really is worth having a little look at - just a 2 minute walk from town centre - it brings a different approach to the city. 

And also I took a picture of the new bridge in Newport! Its a stunning bridge too - I am thinking of taking some nice photos of the bridge and the rest of the river front in Newport at night because its all lit up with different colours etc!

NEWPORT CITY CENTRE - WALES

I have always wanted to do something for Newport like I did with Cardiff Bay so people of Newport, listen up! 

The thing with Newport is, its being redeveloped (hmm) so a lot of it is like a massive building site. But on my way to work this morning, I thought I would quickly take some snaps of Newport because it looked nice from where I was at the top of Charles Street.

P.S. The picture of Kingsway is edited as most people from Newport would of gathered. I only edited it to make it look more colourful and inviting - the other picture wasn't edited because the sun was rising as it was 7.30am, so it naturally came out like this!
